EASTER IN THE PARK
Each year on Easter in San Francisco, Dolores Park plays host to the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence celebration. It includes lots of wild drag and costumes, Easter bonnets and folks out to enjoy the day.
One of my favorite paintings. It never seems to photograph very well, but in person it is powerful. I have kept this one hanging over my bed for years.
Harkens to the decades of Lakota (Sioux) singing I have done with a drum group touring the Northern California Powwow Circuit. This painting reminds me of Leshi Peji, who I learned all my traditional songs and culture from.
Painted September 18, 2020 right after learning of the death of Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States. A year of COVID-19 shelter-in-place and fears, and also during the horrible fires in California and the entire west coast.
Someone dear was going through cancer treatment, COVID-19 was full force, burning landscapes were out of control, and storms were raging. What a year. This is named after a taijichuan move. It very much represents courage and fortitude in the face of disaster.
Paintings of still life, including floral, plant and other various objects. This painting will also serve as the background for graphics for my play, so it has a special place in my heart.
Located just around the corner from where I live in SF, this bar has always fascinated me in how the neon sign is next to the upstairs resident apartment window. I have walked by this scene for decades now, and it endlessly speaks to me.
A special place in my heart, as this painting was featured in the live theater production of RECIPROCATING PUMPS at The Marsh in San Francisco in 2023. It is based on a light fixture found in a Japanese Restaurant on Church Street I used to go to.
