I loved the look of the lengthy leaves that grow out of the two-leafed Welwitschia plant (a native of Africa). The leaves keep growing to very long ribbons, drying out at the ends. A friend of mine says that this seemed very "nuclear power plant" looking. It is a plant in a pot sitting on top of another pot turned upside down.
